Our Story
My story is much like many others. We all want to know where we came from, who were our ancestors, and what they did. As a first-generation immigrant to the United States, I long even more to understand my family’s roots.
Some have the ability and access to search for and find several generations of their family. My opportunity came when I attended graduate school in Mexico City. While sitting at my mother’s kitchen table, I reconnected with her, Isabel Barquera, as is her maiden name. We were talking over a delicious plate of Mexican cuisine, which in Mexico is called antojitos.
Mom would tell me her grandmother’s stories about how one of the Barquera family relatives would distill spirits in the Basque region of Spain. She would say that those people were winemakers and they distilled spirits in the old country. Our ancestors continued to distill spirits in the Americas, but as time passed, the craft was lost with the newer generations.
For me, the traditions of the Barquera family were yearning to come alive. What better way to honor the past than to create a great distilled spirit such as Tequila, which unites the old country with Mexico.
After several adjustments to our creation, we proudly present our perfected Tequila, Hacienda de la Barquera, which uses only 100% pure agave. In the making of Hacienda de la Barquera, we use traditional distilling methods and capitalize on the benefits of incorporating new technology. The result is a truly fine Tequila.
What sets us apart?
Most of the Tequila Manufacturers today have abandoned the traditional Tequila making process. To be unique they add in sweeteners and flavors to change the taste profile.
Here at Hacienda de la Barquera, we are true Tequila connoisseurs and appreciate the taste of pure traditional Tequila. We believe that the best flavor comes by keeping the traditional recipe. Our Tequila only contains one ingredient, Pure Organic Mexican Agave. We Cook, Ferment, Distill, and Barrel at the source using traditional methods and Aged American Oak Barrels.
Our Process gives us a unique, smooth, and true taste. To put it simply… It’s the way Tequila was meant to be made.
